“Don’t count your eggs before they hatch” or so the old adage advises. However, we will be doing just that! Children will have the opportunity to take a closer look at the chicken egg. We will be candling, labeling, and preparing eggs for incubation – all in preparation for the hatch of chicks to arrive 21 days later!
Chickens can play a beneficial role in gardening. They are responsible for eating weed seeds and garden pests, they turnover and aerate soil, and they produce nitrogen rich manure which can be composted and used in garden beds. For such little creatures they sure do lot of work!
It may be February, and awfully cold outside, but we are getting ready for the arrival of spring – so let’s get hatching!
